Designed and completed by the studioMilou offices in Paris and Singapore, the project replaced an unsightly carpark, creating in its place an expansive city garden inspired by 17th century landscaping traditions, while locating, unseen and underground, various mixed-use and facilitie. Located in the city of Niort, the architect’s birthplace in Southwestern France, La Brèche was developed through extensive community consultations to privilege pedestrian and communal activities within a meditative environment which has managed to draw the public back to a regional town centre.

studioMilou Singapore wishes to express its deepest gratitude to La Ville de Niort for its constant and sensitive support to studioMilou for their dedication to the project.

With all of our hearts, we thank the Australian Institute of Architects for this recognition.
